You don’t need to have technical expertise in order to start your own blog. Just follow the instructions mentioned below and you will be all set with a rocking blog on your name!
As you know that in order to start a self hosted blog, you need a domain name and a web host.
We prefer Bluehost as it’s amazingly simple to create a WordPress blog. Their service is very reliable and their shared hosting plan is really cheap.
They also offer a free domain name! That’s a sweet deal 🙂
If you sign up with Bluehost using above link, I will get a small commission for referring them an amazing customer. However, that doesn’t mean that you will be charged anything extra.
Step by Step Instructions to Create a Blog
Here is the guide to set up your WordPress blog in few minutes.
1. Sign up for a Web Hosting Account
Go to the Bluehost website and click on the green button.
2. Choose Package
Here, you need to select the package that you want. As someone just starting out, “Starter” is more than sufficient for you. Click on the “Select” button below the desired package.
3. Enter the Desired Domain Name
Choose a domain name for your blog. Try to have a short and easy name with .com extension as .com is the most popular one.
3. Enter all Details
Here in this step, you need to provide them your information. You also need to enter credit card details.
Select only those add-on options that you really want, otherwise you can just check-off them.
Personally speaking, I never opted for a Sitelock Domain security or Backup service. You can consider “domain privacy protection”. Without this, your name and few other personal information is accessible to public.
If you are unsure, don’t select those options. You can get them later as well.
At the end of same page, you need to fill out your credit card information and then click on “Next” button.
4. Create a Strong Password
In this step, you will be asked to set up a password. Avoid dictionary words. Try to have a combination of lower case, uppercase, special character and number. (Needless to say: you need to remember it as well).
5. Login to Your Bluehost Account
Use the domain name you just registered and the password you have created in previous step to log in to your web hosting account.
6. Install WordPress on Your Web Hosting Account
Once you are on cPanel of your account, scroll down until you find the WordPress icon. Click on it.
On the next page, you again need to Click on WordPress icon. On the next page, you will find “Install” button. Click on it.
They will now ask you “Where you want to install WordPress”. Choose your domain name. Make sure that you don’t enter anything after “/”.
Give your site a name (optional). You don’t need those plugins and themes. So just check them off.
Hit the Complete button after checking the terms and conditions check box.
You will be redirected to a page where you will see a warning: “Directory exists! I understand that continuing will overwrite files”. Don’t worry if it’s a brand new blog or website.
Once you are done with above step, your WordPress blog will be ready.
Just type in your domain name in your favorite web browser and see it for yourself!
That was super easy and doesn’t take more than 5 minutes for entire process.
